The Story of a Turkish Textile Designer
I try to follow new designer trends and to keep up
I work as a designer in a textile firm and I really love my job. I graduated from university two years ago with a textile design degree and with a little luck I was able to find a job quickly. I have a very busy work schedule because the demands of the public and fashion trends change rapidly and we barely have the time to catch up. We mainly make products for the national market and we try to use different styles together in our products. Due to the pressure of the international market I try to follow new designer trends and to keep up.
I work alone in Istanbul as my family is in Kayseri. My father deals with commerce in Kayseri and my mom is a stay at home mom. My mom loves to sow, embroider and knit and I have seen how she made beautiful lace clothes for us when I was a child. She worked as a rug weaver when she was young. I think that’s the main reason why I love what I do. I got familiarized to the work when I was a child and it’s benefited me.
Going to Kayseri to see my family is one of my favorite things to do. As you know Kayseri is famous for its cuisine and especially with the dish mantı. Even though I’m a career woman I still like to develop my cooking skills. I have to say my mantı is amazing. Every summer when I go to see my family I like to develop my cooking skills further. I especially like inviting all my cousins and cook for them. Chatting and having fun at the dinner table is essential for us.
